I love Eastern-themed games, and today, another one was released. It is none other than Westale: Peelgrimage, yes! Peelgrimage. If you love Vampire Survivors or Rouglike Bullet-Hells, you will surely enjoy this game. I got my hands on this game as soon as possible, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Aside from the Chinese music and mythological characters, this game has hours of fun.
From a fully functioning endless mode to tons of individual levels, Westale: Peelgrimage has it. Alongside that, even though it has just been released and has a ton of content planned for the future, the game itself is decently translated.

When you start the game for the first time, you might get greeted with a preset language as Mandarin (which happened in my case). I would recommend heading over to the Game Settings, changing the language to English, and restarting the game; that would solve the issue.
Apart from that, there isn’t much you need to worry about in the settings. Maybe change the Fullscreen or Window option according to your wishes. Now, let us get into the actual gameplay tips for Westale: Peelgrimage.
Character Selection: Best Choices for Beginners
In Westale: Peelgrimage, your chosen character isn’t the final form; it evolves through three distinct forms, each with different appearances and skills. For example, witness Monkey King Sun Wukong’s transformation from “Young” to “Heavenly Might” and finally to “Divine Monkey.” Each evolution amplifies your power by more than double and unlocks new skills.
The first character that you can unlock for free is Nezha. She is a mythological character from Chinese Mythology and is suitable for beginners to get the hang of the game. The currency in this game is called “Spirits”, and you can collect spirits initially from Achievements. After you unlock some talents, they can help you acquire more spirits from clearing levels.

They can be unlocked by clearing advanced levels in the game, so keep grinding!
Character Evolution In Westale: How Does It Work?
Now that you know about the basics of the characters, you should learn about the character evolution in Westale: Peelgrimage. So basically, first, you need to unlock the Evolution by spending Spirits at the Talent section, which unlocks a character-exclusive item, which, when you select in-game, lets your character evolve.
For example, in the case of Nezha, you need to unlock the ‘Sarira’ from the Talent section, which lets her evolve to her following forms. This same rule applies to every character you unlock.
Weapons and Items: Which Ones To Choose?
Westale: Peelgrimage breaks the mould with creative weapons and items inspired by Survivor-like games. Have you seen someone defeat monsters with a pencil? In this game, reality bends as you can even create an “Endless Void” to swallow hordes of monsters.
The weapons are divided into various categories, which you should be mindful of since certain bonus items boost categories while others boost individual weapons or attributes.

Ultimate Relics in Westale: Peelgrimage
You can choose specific weapons and combine them to forge super-powerful relics, transcending the sum of their powers. Westale features up to 20 artifacts, each with diverse effects capable of instantly transforming your combat experience.
You can get your hands on two kinds of relics. One of them is the combination relics, which are formed when you max out two weapons that can be combined with each other. Another kind is the EX weapons, which you can create using a particular item known as the HIgh Braizer of Eight Trigrams.
Some of the best weapon combinations in Westale are:
- Ultimate Breaker = Flame Spear + Trident Glave
- Sharp-eyed Rabbit = Eye of The Heaven + Jade Rabbit
- Void Palm Fan = Banana Palm Fan + Adamantine Pickaxe

What Are The Transformations in Westale?
Transformations are another kind of powerup that you can unlock in Westale: Peelgrimage. They allow your character to go invincible for a few seconds while dealing immense damage, plus THEY CAN BE UPGRADED!
I loved transformations since they gave me a much-needed boost in difficult situations during boss fights. You just press F, and boom! Everything gets annihilated.
Beginner’s Tips for Westale: Peelgrimage
Now that you know the basics of this game, here are some beginner’s tips for new players to avoid some early game mistakes:
- Save your Spirits from Achievements till you unlock ‘Vital Energy’ from Talents. ‘Vital Energy’ allows you to get more spirits when you recover Hearts in the game, which you can exploit with the Kun Weapon, which gives you three extra hearts!
- I recommend against spending Spirits on new transformations when you’re just starting off since Leigong is enough to carry you across to mid-game, where you can farm tons of Spirits.
- Always prioritise Braizer of Eight Trigrams of any kind since they provide a massive boost to your weapons, and try to get as many Ultimate relics as you can since they are insanely powerful.
- Try using the High Braizer of Eight Trigrams on weapons you cannot upgrade. It would save you from wasting a weapon choice and provide a superb weapon upgrade. I loved the EX Divine Call upgrade, which allowed me 4 extra clones and dealt immense damage.
- When using Spirits, first unlock the Talents of Hinayana level, then move on to Evolutions in the Mahayana level since they aren’t as excellent.
