While you will get some familiar vibes to Terraria, the real focus lies on building innovative structures and production systems within the colony. Your ultimate goal is to craft powerful weapons, gather resources, and defend against the threat of underground insects and other enemies. To ensure you don’t get stuck at the beginning, here are some beginner tips to help you get started
Know How To Build A Secure And Sustainable Starter Base
As you started you need a safe place for your citizens. Start with a stone base of 5×5 with a door. Why stone? Because Stone is the best in terms of defense. Choose your location near resources such as boulders and bushes of berries.
You can optimize the layout of your base by placing stations, storage, and outer walls with turrets on them at equal intervals for defense. For tool production, you can gather materials like bamboo ore then try setting up factories and assigning your workers efficiently for optimal production.
Before Setting Up a Base, Ensure You Have Water and Food Sources
Well without water and food, you cannot run your Sanctree efficiently. Try to find berry bushes for an early food source, but don’t rely on them long-term. For the long term you can consider collecting seeds from berries and growing three or four bushes near your base in order to make sure that there is always something to harvest.
Ensure you have a clean water supply by setting up your base near a well. When the population expands, you can replace berry bushes with crops such as wheat or vegetables so that it will be more efficient in the long run.
Always Prioritize Tool Creation
After taking care of harvesting and gathering resources, you will need tools. You should start with a pickaxe which is indispensable when mining stone and other basic materials, as well as for fighting. Pickaxes don’t lose their durability.
When you explore, always collect leaves because they are an important resource in tool and ammunition crafting. As your colony expands, you should construct a separate building for crafting tools so that you can easily make them for your colonists to use.
Don’t Forget To Build Your Structures
Once your basic survival needs are met, you can focus on building structures. Start with homes it will bring joy and good health to colonists by giving them a place to relax and improve their spirits as well as performance. Also, consider these five structures to have in your Sanctree:
Structure | Reasons |
---|---|
Walls | Protects your settlement from insect threats and provides a sturdy defense. |
Factories | Allows you to craft weapons, equipment, and other resources to aid in survival. |
Resource Extractors | Helps you gather essential materials like wood, stone, and ore to fuel your colony’s growth. |
Pools | Provides a source of water and aids in the overall health and sanitation of your colony. |
Gun Towers | Equips your settlement with powerful defensive structures to fend off insect attacks. |
While wells are a good source of water, you should also consider pools, as they are more expansive and easily accessible, which becomes necessary as the population grows and water consumption increases.
Also, don’t forget to position Gun towers throughout your base, in particular, they should be positioned near restricted areas or entrances to broaden the field of fire, maximizing the outer defense line
Always Target Enemies Through Walls. Don’t Engage Directly.
You can kill enemies by shooting through walls in order to avoid endangering colonists. With this tactic, you can wipe them out from within your walls, and gain an upper hand in protecting your colony.
Now, if you plan to explore the dungeon, you’ll encounter spiders there. They are weak alone but swarms can be tough to handle. Use the shuffle tool to your advantage! Create choke points in tunnels, funneling them into a kill zone for easy takedowns.
Bees, on the other hand, are a different story. Early on, Just avoid them altogether. NOTE
Be Sure To Harvest Underground Resources
If you need more resources try and go down to the underground dungeons. These provide resources for colony growth that get reset daily, so you don’t have to worry about them running out.
However, these dungeons are also occupied by enemies. Try not to engage with every enemy. You should attack or avoid depending on resource requirements to increase chances of survival and at the same time maximize resource collection efficiency.
To harvest resources faster, dig underneath an object (whether placed or natural). This will cause it to break and drop its respective item. NOTE
Always Craft Bags For More Space
Make bags to increase your carrying capacity, allowing you to gather more items and making resource collection easier. With crafting bags, you can go on longer foraging excursions and mine for extended periods without needing to return to base as frequently.
To craft bags, you’ll need 10 leaves and 5 leather scraps, which are easy to find. NOTE
