Abyss is a popular Roblox experience where deep-sea exploration and fishing become a thrilling survival journey. You will dive into vast ocean depths, catch rare fish, and complete quests while managing oxygen and dodging underwater dangers.

Moreover, the game features some of the most complex mechanics that you will ever see in a Roblox game. From catching various fish types to choosing the right tube, everything can feel a bit confusing if you’re starting to play the game. So, to help you out, here’s a complete Abyss Beginner’s Guide to help you get started.

      Core Gameplay in Abyss

Every Artifact and how to get them in Abyss

In Abyss, your journey begins inside a protected Hub zone, a safe area enclosed by a massive air bubble that keeps the ocean at bay. Within this bubble, you will find essential NPCs such as the Gun shop, Tube shop, and the Artifact crafting station. The moment you step beyond this barrier, your Oxygen begins to drain, marking the true start of your underwater expedition.

The main gameplay loop revolves around diving into the ocean, hooking fish using harpoons, gathering materials, and selling your catch to the Kraken while completing quests. The money and resources you earn allow you to upgrade your gear, unlock better tubes, purchase stronger guns, and explore increasingly dangerous depths.

Moreover, progression depends on how efficiently you manage Oxygen, inventory weight, equipment upgrades, race selection, and the artifacts you choose during your underwater exploration.

      All Basic Controls

Mastering movement is crucial before diving deep in Abyss. Moreover, learning the keybinds is essential if you want to take your first steps in the progression ladder. Below, we’ve listed all the keybinds that are available in Abyss.

      How Fishing Works in Abyss

      Using Tube in Abyss
      Screenshot by Game Geek Fusion

Fishing in Abyss is far more action-oriented than traditional Roblox fishing games. Instead of using rods, you rely on harpoon guns to capture fish and certain quest-related items. The process begins once you equip a gun and leave the safe zone. Outside this zone, fish begin spawning in open waters, which you can then hook using your gun.

So, to catch a fish, you need to aim carefully and fire your harpoon. Depending on the strength of your weapon and the fish’s health, you will need to land multiple shots before initiating the capture phase. So, use stronger guns as they require fewer shots. Once ready, a mini-game starts where you must keep the moving fish icon inside the green zone as the bar fills. The better your control, the faster the capture completes.

However, fishing isn’t risk-free. Many fish retaliate when attacked, and aggressive species like sharks can strike even if you’re not targeting them. Additionally, if you deal too much damage and kill a fish instead of completing the mini-game, you can still collect it, but it will sell for less compared to a live catch. This makes balancing damage and control an important part of efficient fishing in Abyss.

Every Gun & How to Get Them in Abyss

Guns determine how efficiently you can catch fish. You can use Harpoons to catch fish in Abyss, and each type of gun has different damage, cooldown, and control. Below, we’ve mentioned the purpose of each stat in a gun in Abyss.

      • Damage – Reduces fish health faster.
      • Control – Enlarges the green mini-game zone.
      • Cooldown – Time between shots.

Likewise, there are 12 guns in Abyss, each with its own unique design and stats. Below, we’ve listed a table mentioning all the guns, along with their stats and cost in Abyss.

All Fish Types & Mutations in Abyss

Abyss features a vast collection of fish species spread across multiple biomes, with over a hundred varieties available at launch. Higher-rarity fish are much harder to encounter but sell for significantly more cash, making them highly valuable targets during deep-sea expeditions. Common fish appear frequently in early zones, while Epic and Legendary species are usually found in deeper or more dangerous areas.

In addition to rarity, fish can spawn with special mutations that increase their overall value and sometimes serve as requirements for specific quests. These mutations act as bonus modifiers, making certain catches far more desirable than their standard counterparts.

Fish also vary in weight, which directly impacts both their selling price and how much inventory space they consume. Heavier fish are worth more but take up more of your limited carry capacity, forcing you to balance profit against storage efficiency.

Oxygen & Tubes in Abyss – The Core Progression Mechanic

      Tubes Shop in Abyss
      Screenshot by Game Geek Fusion

Managing Oxygen is one of the most important survival mechanics in Abyss. The moment you step outside the main Hub bubble, your Oxygen begins to drain steadily. You can monitor your remaining supply through the blue sphere displayed in the bottom-left corner of the screen, which gradually empties as time passes underwater.

If your Oxygen runs out while you are still outside the safe zone, you instantly drown, losing a considerable amount of cash along with the fish you are carrying before respawning at the base, unless you have a race that prevents it. Because of this, Oxygen naturally limits how far and how deep you can explore.

So, to push beyond these boundaries, you will need better equipment and upgraded stats to increase your Oxygen capacity, which is exactly where Tubes become essential. Tubes are your main source of traversal in Abyss, allowing you to travel farther and deeper from the spawn. Moreover, each tube has certain stats that you need to watch out for.

      StatPurpose
OxygenTotal breathing capacity outside the bubble
WeightCarry limit for fish and gear
Max DepthMaximum depth before forced drowning

Each Tube has a Tube Boost, which can be activated with Left Shift. It increases movement speed but drains Oxygen quickly.

Artifacts & How to Get Them in Abyss

Artifacts provide consistent stat boosts that remain active once equipped, which allows you to tailor your build around speed, oxygen capacity, damage output, cooldown reduction, weight handling, cash gain, or XP bonuses. Moreover, they are obtained from Geodes that you can get while fishing.

During the reeling mini-game, Geodes appear as a treasure chest icon. So, if you manage to secure one, you can take it to the Virelia NPC to have it opened and claim the Artifact inside.

All NPC Quest Givers & Hidden Questlines in Abyss

Beyond the main Hub NPCs, several hidden characters offer unique questlines and rewards. Below, we’ve listed a table mentioning the various NPCs and their questlines in Abyss.
